By Glory John
The King’s Baton Relay for the 2026 Commonwealth Games has commenced its global tour, delivering a symbolic message of unity and competition to Commonwealth member nations ahead of the multi-sport event.
Launched in Glasgow, Scotland, on 10 March 2025, the relay will traverse continents including the Caribbean, Africa, Asia, Oceania, and Europe before concluding at the Games’ opening ceremony in 2026.
Each of the 74 Commonwealth Games Associations will carry the Baton through cultural and athletic events, fostering international cooperation and celebrating sporting heritage.
Organisers say this is the first time that each association will receive a Baton customised to reflect its own cultural identity, enhancing the spirit of inclusion and diversity throughout the tour.
The 2026 Commonwealth Games are widely expected to draw athletes from across the Commonwealth when they convene to compete in a range of sporting disciplines.
