ASUU Declares Indefinite Strike Across Three Lagos State Universities
By GLEBM News Desk
Academic activities have been disrupted across three Lagos State-owned universities following the declaration of an indefinite strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities.
The affected institutions are Lagos State University (LASU), Lagos State University of Education (LASUED), and Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH).
The industrial action followed the expiration of a 14-day ultimatum issued to the Lagos State Government over the implementation of outstanding agreements involving university lecturers.
The union said the deadline passed without what it considered a satisfactory resolution or concrete implementation plan.
Among the issues at the centre of the dispute is the implementation of the 2025 Federal Government-ASUU renegotiated agreement and related conditions affecting university staff.
The latest strike adds to a series of industrial disputes that have continued to affect Nigeria’s tertiary education system, with unions repeatedly demanding the implementation of negotiated agreements and improved working conditions.
The disruption is expected to affect lectures, examinations and other academic activities across the three institutions until an agreement is reached.
The development places renewed pressure on the state government and university authorities to engage the union and seek a resolution capable of restoring academic activities.
