UCH Health Workers Begin Indefinite Strike Over Director’s Reinstatement

By GLEBM News Desk

Health services at the University College Hospital, Ibadan, are facing disruption following the commencement of an indefinite strike by allied health professionals.

The industrial action centres on a dispute over the reinstatement of the hospital’s Director of Pharmaceutical Services, Dr Adeyinka Ishola, following a disciplinary matter.

The hospital’s chapter of the Nigeria Union of Allied Health Professionals began the strike after alleging that management had failed to implement a recommendation from the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare regarding the case.

The dispute has the potential to affect the delivery of healthcare services at one of Nigeria’s major tertiary medical institutions.

Allied health professionals play important roles across hospital services, including pharmacy, laboratory services, physiotherapy, radiography and other specialised areas.

The industrial action adds to concerns about the effect of unresolved workplace disputes on healthcare delivery, particularly in public hospitals where patients depend heavily on government-funded services.

Efforts to resolve the dispute will be important to restoring normal hospital operations and preventing further disruption to patients and healthcare workers.
