Academic activities at Plateau State University are set to resume after lecturers suspended their industrial action following an agreement with the Plateau State Government.

The university’s branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities suspended the strike effective midnight on September 16, 2026, after reviewing commitments reached during negotiations with the state government.

The dispute had lasted since August 26 and was linked to a six-point list of demands presented by the lecturers.

The areas covered by the agreement include commencement of the Contributory Pension Scheme, implementation of the 2025 Federal Government-ASUU agreement and payment of related arrears.

The agreement also addresses staff accommodation, security infrastructure around staff quarters, concerns over alleged intimidation of union leaders and outstanding wage-award payments.

The union said members had been directed to resume academic activities following the agreement.

The development provides a temporary resolution to the dispute and allows academic activities at the institution to continue while the implementation of the agreed measures is monitored.

The situation also demonstrates the importance of structured negotiations between university authorities, state governments and academic unions in resolving disputes before they result in prolonged disruption to students.
